Hi! I'm Jill! I've been a youth advisor with NAGLY since 2005, and a member before that. I have a backround in theater, and community work. I've also had some obscure employment, which I'm proud of. This includes, but is not limited to: candy store worker (oldest store in America!), carnival supply rental cleaner, Civil War and Colonial reinactment camp organizer, and a few more. So as you see, NAGLY welcomes diversity of ALL kinds! I'm studying Social Work and Social Pychology- but besides those uptight fields, I'm a major goofball. I'm open to anyone, anytime, as someone to talk to. So I hope you can consider me a friend!
Hi, my name is Kevin. I was born in San Francisco, California and on the day I was born there was a rainbow over the hospital. I guess you can say I was destinedto be gay. I spent the first 11 years of my life in California in a small town full of fundamentalist Christians. There were no gay people in the entire town, well at least none that were out. At age 12, I moved to Manchester by the sea, a small coastal town on Boston’s north shore. By the time high school came around, I had already known I was gay for a couple years but hadn’t told anyone. At the beginning of freshman year I decided that it was time to be who I knew I really was and to stop living a lie. By the second week of school every one knew. I feel both scared and free at the same time, more free in fact than I had ever felt before in my life. Shortly after coming out, one of my friends told me about this youth group in Salem for kids like me called NAGLY. At first I was scared to go, what my Mom found out or if I didn’t fit in. Finaly I decided to go. I can still remember walking in I think that every one in the room must be able to hear my heart pounding, and before I knew it some boy ran up to me and gave me a big hug and said you must be new. He then showed me around and explained a little about NAGLY. Then the meeting started by the time we were half way through I knew I had just found my family! Now almost 5 years later I am the senior youth adviser and currently the longest attending member. NAGLY has helped me in my past, my present, and I know it well keep helping me and others in the future.
Hey! My name is Conor. I have been a proud member of NAGLY for since about 2005. I grew up in Somerville, but I live in the small town of Reading now. I am a freshman at Bunker Hill Community College with a major in psychology, double minor in music and sociology. I love meeting new people, hanging out, making music; almost anything keeps me enthused. I find myself to be an easy person to talk to and am relatively experienced in life. NAGLY has been the highlight of my week for as long as I can remember coming. I hope it will be the same way for you!
Hello, Hello! I'm Harry, and I live in the middle of no where. I am looking to study musical theatre in the future, and I have worked at places
such as Northshore Music Theater. I was looking for a
gay friendly place to find refuge after a 9 year stint
as a boy scout, which is when I became involved with NAGLY.
Hi my name is Mia Olivero. I’ve been coming to NAGLY since October 2004. At the time I was the president of Lynn Classical’s GSA and wanted to get some ideas. Once I came through the doors I was hooked! I’ve volunteered with various organizations such as Lynn Community Health Center, Girl’s Inc in Lynn, Fenway community Health, and Goldfish Pond Committee. When I’m not at NAGLY, I’m at Year Up Inc. as head of the communication actions committee. I work full-time for State Street Financial Services as a help desk analyst. My hobbies include fixing computers, playing video games, doing something that is not for me, and learning new things. In the future I would like to work with video games and movies. I am definitely not shy. So if I see you coming through the doors and I don’t know you, I will introduce myself.
