I want a place to go but I don't want my parents to find out I'm gay. How confidential NAGLY is?
Confidentiality is essential to most NAGLY members. In the past, parents have contacted NAGLY advisors prioir to a young person joining, but never has a parent "checked in" about their child. We do not collect, contact or document other identifying information. As a rule, we don't disclose personal infomation. Please review our "For Parents" section for more information.
Each meeting, group guidelines are reviewed which include confidentiality – so that members are asked to keep other members information confidential as well.
Can you be straight and still being a member?
NAGLY is welcoming to straight allies as well as those who are questioning their sexuality and gender identity.
Who runs NAGLY?
NAGLY is run trained adult and peer advisors. We have a board of directors overseeing operations.
What makes NAGLY different from any other support groups?
We are a non-profit committed to social justice with a focus on sexual orientation and gender identity. Our goal is to provide support youth in their social development.
When does the meeting starts and ends?
The meeting starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm, Every Tuesday
What are Youth Advisors?
Youth advisors are selected leaders within the NAGLY. Their responsibilities include assisitng adult advisors and weekly guests.
About how many people come to the meeting?
It usually depends on what particular month, but most cases it's between 20-40 on an average night.
Does NAGLY provide transportation?
No. Members come from 27 communities North of Boston. Youth often coordinate rides with each other, when possible. NAGLY is accessible from train and bus.
Is it open to gays and lesbians only?
No
I am straight; can I still come to NAGLY?
Yes
I am 13, can I come to NAGLY?
Youth under 14 can attend with parental consent.
If you're confused, are there people to talk to?
Yes, we are primarily a support group - peer and adult advisors who are trained in identification and referral.
If I'm late, can I still come in?
Members are encouraged to arrive by 7:15. Doors are open until 9:00, but late arrivals are asked not to be disruptive of the meeting already in process.
How many adults supervise a NAGLY meeting?
1-2 per meeting.
Is there a fee to get in?
No.
Is there a structured program?
Yes, please review our current schedule.
Are you affiliated with the GSA's?
No affliation, but we are familiar with the school-based gay-straight allianciances in the area and we can refer.
